About this game
Entaku no Seito - The Eternal Legend is a PSP role-playing game centered on combat encounters, area and route exploration, and collection and development goals. Story beats, exploration, and progression resources support a longer campaign, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Characters, world building, environments, and music carry most of the atmosphere, while the portable widescreen, UMD streaming, compressed audio, and handheld-scale interface need to preserve targets, text, and action readability. The genre-specific limitation is that dense text, menu layers, repeated battles, loading, or language dependence can slow progress. Platform conditions also include single-nub camera control, UMD loading and noise, Memory Stick saves, battery life, regional language, ad hoc requirements, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

A traditional dungeon RPG whose party bonds and targeted loot hunts give the crawl momentum.
The PSP Eternal Legend is a port of Students of the Round, not an entirely new sequel. Its first-person dungeons and six-person turn-command party are familiar, but student relationships feed directly into play. Battles, meals and interviews raise Soul Ranks, enabling Union skills that resist charm or strengthen the group. Placing bait at trap points can deliberately summon equipment-bearing enemies rather than requiring aimless wandering for drops. These systems link character growth, combat planning and exploration with unusual clarity. Character quests add personal stakes, and a completed-play review found the normal route did not demand excessive grinding. Master mode offers stronger monsters and base-only saving for players wanting a harsher second run. The PSP port adds voices, revised portraits and an optional chibi look, although its teacher-and-student premise is not developed as far as it might be. Auto-mapping, a live minimap, visible events and command descriptions lower the entry barrier; smaller menu details still need learning. The original Japanese-language text is a practical limitation for readers without Japanese.
Strengths
- Bond skills and baited loot form a strong progression loop
- Accessible main pacing plus character stories and a demanding Master mode
Weaknesses
- The teacher premise is not explored to its full potential
- Some menu friction and a Japanese-language barrier
Who it is for: Japanese-reading players seeking a character-led traditional dungeon RPG.
Play notes: Original PSP release is in Japanese; Master mode restricts where saving is allowed.
