About this game

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is a PlayStation 5 role-playing game centered on area exploration, combat and party setup, and character progression. Story beats, exploration, and progression resources support a longer campaign, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Characters, world building, environments, and music carry most of the atmosphere, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that dense text, menu layers, repeated battles, loading, or language dependence can slow progress. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Collected in series

A substantial combat overhaul within a repetitive mission structure.

Reunion makes Zack action and materia abilities more directly responsive to decisions. Random DMW rewards become a useful addition rather than something combat must constantly rely on. Relationships with his companions still provide emotional moments, even when dialogue and spectacle become extravagantly melodramatic. The structure has changed less than the fighting: short assignments repeatedly revisit corridors and familiar kill objectives, making extended side-mission sessions feel routine. The cited PS5 test reports clear 4K output and steady 60fps, helping the revised combat feel coherent. Presentation improvements do not transform the underlying locations. Final Fantasy VII fans can find worthwhile character context here while accepting the remaining portable-era limitations.

Strengths

  • Materia and direct actions work together effectively.
  • Companion relationships give the spectacle emotional weight.

Weaknesses

  • Repeated corridors and brief kill missions limit variety.

Who it is for: Final Fantasy VII fans interested in action and short assignments.

Play notes: Contains major FFVII background revelations. Evidence is for 2022 Reunion, not Switch 2.
