About this game

Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII is a PlayStation 3 simulation game centered on area and route exploration, state management, and system learning. Schedules, changing values, or staged goals encourage repeated adjustment, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Interface clarity and state feedback matter more than spectacle, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that explanations, dense menus, real-time systems, or accessory dependencies can add friction. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Squad tools cannot rescue easy missions and PS3 stutter.

The PlayStation 3 port of Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII takes a small squad through battles including Dunkirk, Pearl Harbor, North Africa and Midway. Wingmen can attack, defend, distract opponents or help repair a damaged aircraft, and missions alternate dogfighting with bombing. These tools give the pilot things to manage, but weak enemy resistance and easy repairs make defeat uncommon. Locations change more often than the straightforward objectives do. Post-campaign minicampaigns and arcade duels add ways back into the cockpit without fixing that repetition. Some aircraft and battle settings are attractive, while crude ground targets, grainy distant objects and less convincing rerecorded PS3 dialogue weaken the spectacle. Crucially, a contemporary review of this exact port describes serious intermittent frame-rate trouble. Standard dual-stick flight is serviceable, and optional Sixaxis tilt feels natural, though less precise for tracking. This independent four-part judgment is confined to the PS3 edition; the protected Wii sibling and separate Xbox release do not inherit its voice work, control scheme or technical faults.

Strengths

  • Wingman commands, aircraft spectacle and tilt option.

Weaknesses

  • Easy repetition, grainy distance and frame drops.

Who it is for: Players seeking light World War II air combat.

Play notes: PS3 only; Wii protected and Xbox separate.
