About this game

Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 is a PlayStation 3 simulation game centered on area and route exploration, competitive sport controls, and state management. Schedules, changing values, or staged goals encourage repeated adjustment, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Interface clarity and state feedback matter more than spectacle, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that explanations, dense menus, real-time systems, or accessory dependencies can add friction. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Collected in series

Pro Evolution Soccer is Konami’s football-game lineage, also known as Winning Eleven in Japan and later continued as eFootball. Its matches emphasize passing, movement and creating space, while modes such as Master League connect individual games to the longer task of building a team.

Detailed football control has real promise, but launch performance and career usability need refinement.

PES 2014 is most appealing when each possession becomes a deliberate decision. Position, body orientation and the timing of a pass matter more than constantly sprinting, and practice can turn an ordinary attack into a carefully constructed move. Physical animation makes contests for the ball more convincing. That freedom also demands learning, while the familiar career framework does too little to explain the complexity. The surrounding flow and presentation lack equivalent attention, adding friction over longer sessions. Historical PS3 testing also found stutter during play and cutscenes, so the potential for fine control is not always comfortable to realize. This version suits players willing to train and focus on the action itself. The assessment covers the original 2013 release; online services have ended and should not be treated as a current purchasing benefit.

Strengths

  • Expressive passing and positioning
  • Convincing physical contests

Weaknesses

  • Limited guidance and convenience
  • Stutter during PS3 play and cutscenes

Who it is for: Football players willing to practice manual control and focus on offline matches.

Play notes: Historical 2013 launch scope; online services ended November 17, 2015, without a 2026 patch retest.
