About this game

Black Knight Sword is a PlayStation 3 action game centered on resource or business management, movement and immediate actions, and enemy and hazard responses. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Memorable nightmare theatre hampered by evasive controls.

Black Knight Sword on PlayStation 3 is a side-scrolling action-platform game staged as a sinister theatrical nightmare. The knight crosses changing cardboard-like sets and attacks grotesque enemies with a surprisingly long-reaching sword. Curtains, lurid blood, grim narration and uneasy music create a memorable atmosphere more distinctive than the basic combat rules. Ordinary jumping and attacks respond well, and health upgrades, learned moves and boss victories give patient players tangible progress. Several levels are punishing even on easy, however. Advanced attacks ask for awkward inputs during fast fights, and evasion requires crouching and pressing X while rolling relative to the knight’s facing direction; it can carry the player into danger. A direct PS3 review also notes a jerky camera and foreground curtains that can obscure incoming enemies or make jumps harder to read. Its visual and sonic identity may justify repeated deaths for players who enjoy harsh action, but the friction is not merely difficulty. This assessment concerns the 2012 PlayStation 3 release and makes no unsupported frame-rate or later-platform correction claims.

Strengths

  • Distinctive stage design, creatures and unsettling music.

Weaknesses

  • Awkward dodge, jerky camera and obstructing curtains.

Who it is for: Patient fans of surreal, difficult action games.

Play notes: PS3 only; other-platform performance not inferred.
