About this game

Black Cat - Kikai-jikake no Tenshi is a PlayStation 2 action game centered on movement and immediate actions, enemy and hazard responses, and stage objectives. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while 3D scenes, streamed data, cinematics, surround audio, and interlaced television output need to preserve action and state readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include DVD loading, the 8MB Memory Card, analog sticks and pressure-sensitive buttons, Multitap, Network Adapter, dedicated peripherals, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Fan storytelling with limited interactive depth

This is not a game about directly steering Train or Eve through action combos. Exploration and dialogue alternate with technique selection and timed roulette presses. Defense builds special resources, while avoiding a lethal finish affects your rating, adding some thematic restraint to simple encounters. Once timing becomes familiar, however, repeated attack and defense can feel mechanical, with little puzzle or combat variety. The original story, two viewpoints and familiar voices are the main attractions for fans. Character drawings and special attacks have appeal, but expressions, battle movement and lip synchronization are limited. A dialogue-heavy adventure particularly suffers from missing backlog and scene skipping; slow fast-forward makes another playthrough cumbersome. It suits players wanting a new character story far more than those seeking responsive freeform action.

Strengths

  • Original story and two viewpoints
  • Familiar voices and special effects
  • Timing and nonlethal restraint

Weaknesses

  • Repetitive, shallow combat
  • Limited expressions and movement
  • Cumbersome rereading without backlog or skip

Who it is for: Black Cat fans prioritizing characters and a new story over direct action.

Play notes: Combat uses commands and timing; enthusiasm varies, and promotional accessibility is not a performance guarantee.
