About this game
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is a PlayStation 5 adventure game centered on story, case, or mission progress, character and object interaction, and objective or clue progression. Locations, objectives, and clues gradually open the main chapters, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Theme, character expression, and environmental clues need to support exploration together, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that guidance, objective triggers, camera behavior, or dense text can create search and comprehension costs. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Complementary protagonists give combat a coherent identity.
Banishers is strongest when investigation forces a choice that its two protagonists cannot comfortably share. Switching between Red's physical attacks and Antea's spectral abilities gives their partnership a useful mechanical expression, while haunting cases turn local mysteries into questions of responsibility and sacrifice. The performances make that emotional framework persuasive. Repeated enemy patterns are less successful at sustaining the journey, so the side stories carry more of its momentum than ordinary encounters do. The historical PS5 review also records frame-rate disruption and interface problems. This assessment concerns that documented launch-era build, not a claim that every defect remains today. It is a convincing narrative action adventure with a less consistent technical foundation.
Strengths
- Complementary protagonists give combat a coherent identity.
- Convincing performances lend weight to its moral dilemmas.
Weaknesses
- Repeated enemy archetypes
Who it is for: Players drawn to character-driven moral dilemmas
Play notes: Technical findings describe the February 2024 review build, not today's patch.
