About this game

Arga trains to surpass his powerful father, then awakens Soul Alter, an ability that changes the age forms of himself and his companions. The party can alternate between adult and child forms as it travels through a pixel-art fantasy world. These changes affect both combat roles and access to certain activities. Battles use turn-based commands, with forms shifting characters between attacking and support functions. Formations, equipment and passive skills provide further tactical choices. Outside battle, players explore puzzle dungeons and optional dungeons, gather ingredients and prepare meals. Some quests specifically require the child form. KEMCO released the PS4 version in 2025.

Age swapping and steady rewards engage, but early battles and storytelling underuse the premise.

Alter Age becomes interesting when the whole party changes age. Preteens conserve magic and build resources, while adults turn that stock into stronger attacks, creating choices between support and damage. Early fights are usually light; later encounters and optional dungeons ask more of the system. Cooking, equipment synthesis and everyday tasks keep growth rewarding even between major events, although similar dungeons and minor puzzles offer less variety than the reward flow. Character portraits, gentle scenery, unusual monsters and pleasant music make the journey appealing. The father-son rivalry is a promising premise, but changing age rarely produces substantial story responses. Minimap references and state indicators combining text with colour organize exploration information clearly. It suits relaxed party building and resource experimentation more than constant tactical pressure or deeply developed age-sensitive storytelling.

Strengths

  • Party-wide age changes connect cheaper magic, resource generation and burst damage through meaningful choices.
  • Cooking, equipment synthesis and everyday tasks maintain rewarding progression.
  • Appealing character design and music accompany useful minimaps and textual state feedback.

Weaknesses

  • Early ordinary battles seldom demand full use of age-based coordination.
  • Similar dungeons and minor puzzles limit sustained variation, while story responses to age changes remain sparse.

Who it is for: Players seeking relaxed party development, cooking, equipment synthesis and resource combinations, who also want to explore age tactics in later optional challenges.

Play notes: This concerns the PS4 base game. PS4 and PS5 saves cannot transfer, so continue progress within your chosen version. Early play is light, with deeper tactical demands concentrated later and in optional challenges; the Store lists English and Japanese text.

Cooking, equipment synthesis and regularly paid-out tasks create good progression, rewarding ordinary exploration. Light puzzles and similar dungeons offer less variation, making sustained freshness weaker than the reward flow; optional later challenges still give players a reason to explore the battle system further.

Age swapping connects resource generation, spell support and burst damage through meaningful party-wide choices, creating a good battle system. Light early encounters seldom demand the full combination, so the payoff from actively adapting tactics is concentrated more in later and optional challenges.

Character portraits, gentle scenery, unusual monsters and pleasant music form an appealing presentation, with an engaging father-son rivalry premise. Sparse narrative responses to age changes and familiar story patterns limit its emotional development, leaving the visual charm stronger than the premise's storytelling payoff.

Minimaps organize world outlines and dungeon corridors into separate references, while fixed-position state labels combine text with colour feedback. This provides a good exploration-information structure, helping players check location and interface state without relying solely on the main scene.
