About this game

In Celesia, Energi sustains life and civilization, but the appearance of black energi brings fear and persecution. The Empire claims to protect the population while targeting the Atramians, drawing the protagonists into a story about belief, sacrifice, and the meaning of justice. Turn-based battles use boost slots to increase attack strength or hit counts, with special character skills competing for the same resource. Job orbs representing roles such as fighter, healer, knight, and mage allow abilities to be learned or used. Side quests and a battle arena provide additional activities. KEMCO released the PS4 version in 2021.

Engaging viewpoints and music, constrained by repetitive battles and corridor dungeons.

Alphadia Genesis 2 develops revenge into a question of justice through characters on opposing sides. Their situations give the story more appeal than a simple good-versus-evil premise. Boost slots strengthen attacks and skills, while job equipment permits flexible roles, but maximum-strength attacks dominate much of the early journey before later fights demand greater targeting decisions. Mostly linear dungeons and side quests that return you to old areas make exploration less interesting than the narrative. The airship music is memorable, while attack staging and some mismatches between images and dialogue are less convincing. The original PS4 release offers adjustable encounters, helping players balance training with travel, but native PS5 saves are separate. It best suits story-focused readers comfortable with familiar turn-based routines.

Strengths

  • Opposing character viewpoints strengthen the story
  • Jobs and boosts allow party configuration
  • Encounter settings support flexible exploration

Weaknesses

  • Early combat settles into a dominant routine
  • Corridor dungeons and return quests lack variety
  • Uneven skill staging and visual storytelling

Who it is for: RPG players who value character stories and familiar turn-based systems with adjustable encounters.

Play notes: PS4 and native PS5 saves are incompatible. Removing job equipment removes access to its skills; check party roles after changing it. The listed western edition uses English text.

Resource choices and flexible jobs have potential, but a dominant early routine makes much of the combat less engaging than its systems suggest.

Encounter adjustment gives practical control over interruptions, but incompatible PS4 and native PS5 saves prevent carrying progress between editions.
