About this game

Races combine driving technique with a fruit-based ability system. Players collect fruit during a race, filling separate tanks and choosing when to combine or spend their contents. These abilities can interfere with opponents while corners, jumps and tubular track sections continue to demand attention. A career structure unlocks characters, championships and kart components. Other options include custom races, elimination events and time challenges. The PlayStation 4 listing supports up to four local players and eight online competitors, with PlayStation Plus required for online racing. Western PS4 releases date to 2018; the Chinese-language Hong Kong store edition followed in 2019.

Inventive fruit combinations, with more offline substance than polish.

All-Star Fruit Racing is most interesting when fruit collection becomes a tactical choice rather than decoration. Different combinations produce boosts, attacks or traps, connecting the racing line with the item you want next. Twenty-one seasonal tracks, career events, time trials and custom tournaments provide a respectable offline selection, while strawberry hills and pineapple canyons give several courses personality. Longer career races can feel repetitive, however, and the generic cast and subdued music do not sustain the same energy. PS4 driving is introduced through a tutorial, but customization allows only one saved kart, and the documented version has slow loading. This assessment covers verified offline play, not unconfirmed online benefits or an assumption that later patches resolved the recorded limitations.

Strengths

  • Fruit combinations connect item strategy with route selection.
  • Seasonal tracks and offline modes provide a substantial selection.

Weaknesses

  • Long career events can become repetitive.
  • Generic characters, subdued music and limited kart storage reduce polish.

Who it is for: Casual kart-racing players interested in experimenting with item combinations.

Play notes: Evidence concerns PS4 version 1.01; later loading fixes and current online availability are unverified.
