About this game
Aliens Versus Predator - Extinction is a PlayStation 2 strategy game centered on combat encounters, character or equipment growth, and turn-based tactical decisions. Missions add map constraints, new rules, and tougher opposition, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Maps, unit states, and action feedback determine whether complex situations remain readable, while 3D scenes, streamed data, cinematics, surround audio, and interlaced television output need to preserve action and state readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that tutorial depth, dense menus, controller pointing, and long scenarios increase the learning curve. Platform conditions also include DVD loading, the 8MB Memory Card, analog sticks and pressure-sensitive buttons, Multitap, Network Adapter, dedicated peripherals, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Aliens vs. Predator brings two science-fiction monsters into conflict with human soldiers. Its games turn firepower, stealth and predatory movement into different ways to survive, especially in shooters that let you experience all three sides.

Inventive factions in a campaign-bound strategy game.
Extinction earns its interest by making three film factions recruit in genuinely different ways. Marines fund reinforcements through combat and repairs, predators turn collected skulls into honor, and aliens depend on queens and hosts. Removing conventional base construction keeps attention on units and combat, so changing factions changes decisions rather than just appearances. Seven missions per faction supply useful variety, and controller grouping plus automated behaviors make commanding armies manageable after some learning. The PS2 version's aliasing and sparse battlefield detail reduce the spectacle, while muddy voices and forgettable music do little to supplement familiar film effects. The greater limitation is structural: without skirmishes or multiplayer, there is little freedom to explore these inventive systems after the campaigns. It suits campaign-minded strategy fans better than players seeking an enduring competitive sandbox.
Strengths
- Recruitment systems express each faction's identity.
- Grouping and automated behaviors make controller command workable.
Weaknesses
- No skirmish or multiplayer mode limits longevity.
- PS2 aliasing and sparse environments weaken the spectacle.
Who it is for: Fans of the setting who enjoy single-player strategy campaigns.
Play notes: This is a campaign RTS, not a first-person shooter, and includes no skirmish or multiplayer mode.
