About this game

Detective Kaname Date searches Tokyo for the truth behind a serial murder case. Select people and objects to gather statements and clues, use the zoom, thermal and X-ray functions of his artificial eye, and present evidence when questioning demands an answer. Some interactive events also ask for button inputs that affect their outcome. The investigation continues inside the dreams of people connected to the case. Here, you choose actions to break Mental Locks and reach hidden information, with each action spending part of a six-minute budget. Dream outcomes determine story branches, and replaying a dream at a divergence lets you investigate another route.

8.1 / 10Nintendo Switch

A fit for mystery readers who enjoy making consequential choices inside dream puzzles.

Witness questioning and evidence presentation may satisfy players who like assembling an investigation through conversation and observation. The dream time budget adds a different kind of decision pressure, while branching outcomes give revisiting a dream a clear narrative purpose.

Strengths

  • The combination of witness evidence and dream clues could appeal to players who enjoy comparing different sources of information.
  • Replaying a branching Somnium offers a concrete way to investigate an alternative story route.

Weaknesses

  • Time-costed dream actions may frustrate players who prefer to try every option without a budget.

Who it is for: Players interested in murder mysteries, evidence-based conversations and dream puzzles that require choosing which actions to spend time on.

Play notes: The game includes graphic violence and suggestive material; its detective premise does not imply a restrained content tone.
