About this game

Agatha Christie - The ABC Murders is a PlayStation 4 puzzle game centered on story, case, or mission progress, spatial or logical judgment, and successive puzzle solving. Compact stages add conditions and tighter constraints over time, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Graphics, audio, and input feedback need to support decisions directly, while HD output, HDR or PS4 Pro modes, HDD streaming, surround audio, and television-distance interfaces need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that limited explanations, input recognition, repetition, or abrupt difficulty can stall progress. Platform conditions also include HDD installs and loading, patch version, storage space, DualShock 4 battery life, PS Camera or PS VR requirements, visual modes, frame rate, and network services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Rewarding deductions amid rough staging and puzzles.

The PS4 version of The ABC Murders follows Poirot through three alphabetically linked killings. Players inspect crime scenes, question witnesses, connect evidence through his little grey cells and reconstruct each murder. Those deductions, together with the eventual explanation, provide the best detective rewards. A tobacco shop, restaurant and seaside mansion also give the short journey distinct period settings. The investigation offers less agency than it first suggests: a wrong dialogue choice usually steers itself back to the correct route. Several elaborate locks feel disconnected from an urgent murder inquiry, interrupting the case’s momentum. The firsthand PS4 review also describes weak lip synchronization, flat voice performances and repeated lines during inspection. These faults reduce the presence of the characters more than they damage the underlying mystery. It is a reasonable choice for Christie readers wanting a compact case with a conclusion, provided they can accept modest production and uneven puzzles.

Strengths

  • Three linked cases build to a satisfying reveal.

Weaknesses

  • Shallow choices, arbitrary locks and weak performances.

Who it is for: Players wanting a compact Poirot case.

Play notes: 2016 North American PS4 review build.
