About this game

AER - Memories of Old is a PlayStation 4 puzzle game centered on rule recognition, spatial or logical judgment, and successive puzzle solving. Compact stages add conditions and tighter constraints over time, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Graphics, audio, and input feedback need to support decisions directly, while HD output, HDR or PS4 Pro modes, HDD streaming, surround audio, and television-distance interfaces need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that limited explanations, input recognition, repetition, or abrupt difficulty can stall progress. Platform conditions also include HDD installs and loading, patch version, storage space, DualShock 4 battery life, PS Camera or PS VR requirements, visual modes, frame rate, and network services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Beautiful free flight carries an adventure whose temples do less with that idea.

AER: Memories of Old is at its most appealing when Auk becomes a bird and glides between scattered islands. Flight is easy to enjoy, and the clean low-poly scenery, bright colour and music that changes as she takes off give even unstructured travel a purpose. The main route sends her into temples to use a lantern, switches and platform jumps. Those puzzles are understandable but rarely develop the freedom of flight, leaving the strongest mechanic somewhat apart from progression. Early direction can be obscure, and long passages of mythic exposition interrupt the gentle pace. Two firsthand PS4 reviews differ on control feel: one praises smooth soaring, while the other describes unresponsive jumps and awkward camera placement in temple platforming. That narrower disagreement matters more than any unsupported claim about general frame rate or a later patch. Players who value atmosphere and discovery over demanding puzzles will get the most from the journey.

Strengths

  • Bird flight makes exploration pleasurable.
  • Colour and adaptive music establish a peaceful world.

Weaknesses

  • Temple puzzles seldom use the flight mechanic.
  • PS4 temple jumps and camera draw conflicting firsthand reports.

Who it is for: Players seeking relaxed exploration and environmental storytelling.

Play notes: PS4 review observations; exact patch state remains unverified.
