About this game
007 - Tomorrow Never Dies is a PlayStation shooter game centered on aiming, shooting, and weapon use, combat encounters, and aiming and shooting. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while early 3D graphics, pre-rendered backgrounds, CD audio, and full-motion video need to preserve targets and interface readability on a television. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include disc loading, Memory Card saves, regional video standards, digital or analog control support, vibration, and dedicated peripherals affect original-hardware use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Several action formats, little lasting depth.
Tomorrow Never Dies takes a third-person route instead of copying GoldenEye’s first-person missions. Shooting is punctuated by a gadget car, ski combat and a jet sequence, so the action changes shape on paper. In practice, close-range lock-on handles many encounters and enemy reactions rarely demand clever tactics. The whole campaign can finish in under five hours, with abrupt mission endings and little reason to replay. The original PlayStation review finds a camera that generally follows Bond well, but switching weapons requires working through the whole inventory during combat. Limited sniper distance, visible object pop-in and unremarkable explosions further reduce the film spectacle. It suits Bond enthusiasts interested in how an early adaptation tried several action formats. The lower judgment follows from specific encounter, pacing and interface problems, not from the console simply being old or less sharp than newer hardware.
Strengths
- Car, ski and jet scenes break up shooting.
Weaknesses
- Easy lock-on, awkward inventory and brevity hurt.
Who it is for: Bond enthusiasts exploring early film adaptations.
Play notes: 1999 PS1 original, without importing GoldenEye mechanics.
