PlayStation 4, or PS4, is Sony’s home-console platform first released in North America on November 15, 2013. It connects to a television or monitor and supports a broad range of adventures, sports, racing and multiplayer games. Original, Slim and more powerful Pro systems belong to this generation.
Games are distributed on Blu-ray discs or as downloads, with installation data and saves using console storage. The DualShock 4 wireless controller adds a touchpad, light bar and a Share button for capturing play. PS4 Pro can improve image quality or performance in supported games, although resolution and frame rate depend on the individual title and display setup.
Original PS1, PS2 and PS3 game discs do not run directly on PS4. Remasters and re-releases must specifically support the platform. Disc games normally still need their disc inserted after installation. Check game editions and account regions when matching downloadable extras or saves. Camera, motion-control and original PS VR games may require additional compatible equipment.
