About this game
XCOM Enemy Within is a Xbox 360 simulation game centered on collection and development goals, resource or business management, and repeated adjustment and feedback. Schedules, changing values, or staged goals encourage repeated adjustment, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Interface clarity and state feedback matter more than spectacle, while HD video, DVD streaming, surround audio, HDD installs, and television-distance interfaces need to keep action, state, and text readable. The genre-specific limitation is that explanations, dense menus, real-time systems, or accessory dependencies can add friction. Platform conditions also include disc and HDD installation, storage devices, controller batteries, video connections, resolution and frame rate, Kinect space and calibration, and retired online services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
XCOM is a science-fiction strategy series best known for combining squad tactics with decisions made back at headquarters. You choose where soldiers move and when they fire, then invest scarce resources in the research and equipment that may keep them alive next time. Its battles turn a broad struggle over Earth into the fate of a few people under your command.

Xbox 360AI review

A deep tactical package links risky advances with squad transformation, despite imperfect technical clarity.
Enemy Within makes apparently safe decisions worth questioning again. Reaching a resource before it disappears requires leaving a comfortable rhythm, while the abilities it funds change how the next squad should be positioned. That feedback between battlefield risk and base development gives the campaign sustained interest. The console package is complete enough to serve newcomers and offers experienced commanders reasons to rebuild familiar plans, though its underlying campaign has not been replaced. Mechanized soldiers lend advancement an unsettling physical cost, while repeated successes and losses give individual units personal value. The Xbox 360 implementation is less convincing when visibility rules and clipping make the scene harder to interpret. Those faults matter in a game built around careful decisions. This is a historical assessment of the 2013 solo campaign and does not establish present multiplayer availability.
Strengths
- Closely connected risk and development
- Complete standalone campaign
Weaknesses
- Familiar campaign structure on replay
- Visibility and clipping reduce clarity
Who it is for: Strategy players who enjoy tactical risk and long-term squad development.
Play notes: Historical Xbox360 assessment; current multiplayer service was not tested.
