About this game
What Remains of Edith Finch is a PC puzzle game centered on rule recognition, spatial or logical judgment, and successive puzzle solving. Compact stages add conditions and tighter constraints over time, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Graphics, audio, and input feedback need to support decisions directly, while resolution, graphics settings, frame rate, aspect ratio, audio, text scaling, and hardware performance need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that limited explanations, input recognition, repetition, or abrupt difficulty can stall progress. Platform conditions also include OS and hardware requirements, installation media, patches, drivers, DRM and launchers, key binding and controller support, save locations, mod compatibility, servers, and era-specific OS compatibility affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Inventive family storytelling meets limited PC input customisation.
The original Windows PC release of What Remains of Edith Finch begins in an apparently ordinary family house whose sealed rooms gradually reveal a history of early deaths. Distinct first-person memorials change the form of interaction: the player works an old camera, flies a kite or enters an imagined videogame world. These episodes offer little mechanical challenge or power to alter the outcome, but they turn each relative’s memory into an experience rather than a detached account. PC Gamer’s direct reviewer spent roughly six hours investigating thoroughly. The route remains strongly guided, with automatic traversal and visible interaction points keeping the anthology moving. Familiar furniture, private shrines and increasingly strange spaces make the accumulated loss difficult to shake. The Windows review noted several graphics settings and clearly signalled checkpoint saves. It also found almost no input remapping: WASD could not be reassigned and the mouse felt sluggish even at maximum sensitivity. No measured frame rate was supplied, so performance is not guaranteed. This is for players seeking a formally inventive, emotionally heavy family story rather than broad exploratory challenge.
Strengths
- Playable memorials and house detail make loss tangible.
Weaknesses
- Restricted routes, fixed WASD and slow mouse response.
Who it is for: Players seeking a guided, emotionally intense interactive story.
Play notes: No PC frame-rate measurement; Switch port behaviour is separate.
