About this game
Total War: Warhammer is a PC action game centered on platform movement and landing judgment, enemy and hazard responses, and stage objectives. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while resolution, graphics settings, frame rate, aspect ratio, audio, text scaling, and hardware performance need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include OS and hardware requirements, installation media, patches, drivers, DRM and launchers, key binding and controller support, save locations, mod compatibility, servers, and era-specific OS compatibility affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Total War pairs turn-based empire management with real-time battles between large armies. Across historical settings and its Warhammer fantasy branch, the plans you make on the campaign map meet the practical demands of terrain, formations and morale.

Faction strategy and spectacular fantasy battles work together, with attrition and demanding launch performance.
Total War: Warhammer makes its setting matter to strategic decisions. Different factions encourage different approaches to expansion and army management, while flying units, monsters and magic add variables to familiar formation fighting. Learning a new army therefore offers more than a change of appearance. Campaign objectives and outside threats give long campaigns direction, although repeated clashes and returning legendary enemies can make local progress feel laborious. Detailed creatures and war machines give battles a strong identity and make the tactical view worth inspecting. The launch PC version places a substantial burden on the processor during large engagements, so reducing visual quality alone is not a complete remedy. This evaluation concerns the original 2016 base game and retail DirectX 11 testing, excluding later faction packs, combined maps and unverified modern performance.
Strengths
- Meaningful faction and unit differences
- Expressive large-scale fantasy battles
Weaknesses
- Recurring campaign attrition
- Demanding launch CPU performance
Who it is for: Players who enjoy formation tactics and distinct strategic factions.
Play notes: Original 2016 base-game scope; later DLC and combined campaigns excluded.
