About this game

Legacy of the Void follows Artanis as he seeks to unite the protoss against Amon. Travelling aboard the ancient Spear of Adun, players command forces on different worlds and gain new military options through allied factions. Between missions, destination choices, army configurations and ship systems shape the next battle. Solarite collected through the campaign powers abilities such as Orbital Strike and Time Stop, with limited selections encouraging trade-offs. Objectives including defending a damaged platform and relocating a mobile base vary how forces and resources must be arranged.

StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void

Deep combinations reward practice, despite repeated objectives and substantial management demands.

Legacy of the Void connects army selection with the practical pleasure of commanding it. Unit variants and ship powers turn a preferred plan into a different battlefield configuration, while energy and cooldowns prevent powerful interventions from becoming constant answers. Co-op missions and shared-army Archon matches offer other ways to participate. Their teaching value depends on the partnership: one account finds division of responsibilities helpful, while another finds experienced players can take over a newcomer’s practice. Campaign objectives sometimes return to capturing or defending several points, and spectacular cinematics cannot entirely hide that familiarity. The identified PC test uses a clear top-screen entry for ship commands, but faster pacing and simultaneous management still demand practice. It suits strategy players willing to develop combinations and command skills; the story depends more heavily on an existing interest in the series.

Strengths

  • Army and ship powers enable different plans
  • Campaign and co-op offer different entry points

Weaknesses

  • Repeated mission objectives
  • Demanding simultaneous management for newcomers

Who it is for: Strategy players willing to practise simultaneous command and experiment with unit combinations.

Play notes: Independent judgment from Chris Thursten’s November 17, 2015 PC test and Daniel Starkey’s November 20 observations, not our own playtest. Rig, patch and primary test hours are unspecified. Multiplayer findings are historical, with no current networking, purchase-entitlement or frame-rate guarantee.

Campaign, co-op missions and shared-army Archon play offer different goals. Repeated objective patterns reduce campaign freshness despite varied units and powers.

Unit variants and ship powers support different plans, with energy and cooldowns limiting interventions. Faster competition also demands more simultaneous economic and unit management.

Mass warp-ins, battle effects, cinematics and committed voice acting sustain spectacle. Dense lore and grandiose storytelling are less accessible without the earlier campaigns.

The PC test uses a top-screen command interface for ship powers and combines unit variants in practice. It supports layered management, though newcomers still face substantial input demands; it is not a hardware benchmark.
