About this game

SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance is a PlayStation 5 action game centered on area and route exploration, enemy and hazard responses, and stage objectives. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Collected in series

Shinobi is Sega's ninja action series, mixing precise jumps and weapon timing with modern cityscapes and supernatural enemies. Throw shuriken, close in with a blade and read enemy positions before committing to a move. Its side-scrolling and 3D entries put different demands on the same quick, deliberate approach.

Excellent combat and art with pacing friction.

Dash cancels, attack combinations and execution rewards let you shape the rhythm of a fight rather than merely watch an impressive animation. Illustrated environments give that action a strong identity. Long stages and occasional awkward collision are the principal limitations, especially when precision platforming interrupts a good run. It suits players who enjoy practising combinations and gradually finding a personal style. Learn how cancelling and executions work before chasing spectacular sequences. Score-focused players have reasons to continue, but a first playthrough need not become a search for every secret. The strongest reward is the fluency that comes with familiarity, not narrative complexity. Separating exploratory runs from performance-focused attempts may make the long stages easier to appreciate.

Strengths

  • Cancels and executions enable expression.

Weaknesses

  • Long stages and occasional collision issues.

Who it is for: Combo-focused action players.

Play notes: Standard PS5 2025 review, excluding DLC.
