About this game
Mortal Kombat is a PlayStation Vita fighting game centered on combat encounters, story, case, or mission progress, and move inputs. Short bouts use character differences and rising difficulty for variety, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hit feedback, and readable arenas create match tension, while the high-density portable display, stereo audio, touch feedback, and handheld interface need to keep text, targets, and state changes clear at a small scale. The genre-specific limitation is that button mapping, move recognition, multiplayer accessories, and cpu behavior can affect balance. Platform conditions also include proprietary memory cards, touch or gyroscope input, battery life, download availability, cross-platform features, and retired online services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Mortal Kombat is a fighting series where martial artists and supernatural rivals settle their disputes in brutal duels. You read an opponent’s attacks, block and counter with special moves and combos, while graphic Fatalities give victories their unmistakable finish.

Responsive portable fighting with abundant challenges and visible compromises.
Mortal Kombat on PS Vita brings the reboot’s side-view fighting and story to a handheld without discarding its substantial solo content. D-pad inputs make special moves and constructed combos responsive, while touchscreen gestures make Fatalities easier to trigger. The original 300-stage Challenge Tower and a new 150-stage Vita tower offer both quick portable tasks and longer goals. Some touch-driven novelty challenges are less compelling than an ordinary fight, but there is much to practice. Cinematic scenes, animated backgrounds and fluid fighter movement retain the series' theatrical brutality. A visible drop in close-up character model detail when a pre-rendered scene hands over to gameplay is the port’s clearest visual compromise. The direct Vita review also observed smooth fights and useful portable controls. It described local and internet play in 2012; that is historical evidence, not a claim that those services work today. This judgment is for the PS Vita release only and does not transfer its technical findings to the frozen Xbox 360 release.
Strengths
- Responsive combos, story content and two towers support portable practice.
Weaknesses
- Some touch tasks are slight and close-up models look rough beside cutscenes.
Who it is for: Vita players who enjoy practicing side-view combat and want substantial solo goals.
Play notes: Based on the 2012 Vita review; present availability of historic multiplayer modes is unverified.
