About this game

LEGO Batman 3 - Beyond Gotham is a Wii U action game centered on combat encounters, puzzle, maze, or device solving, and area and route exploration. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while HD television output and the GamePad screen need to divide maps, status, touch input, and primary focus clearly. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include GamePad battery life and range, shifts between two screens, loading, performance, and retired online and Miiverse services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

Separate-screen co-op shines despite a murky GamePad image.

On Wii U, LEGO Batman 3 keeps the family-friendly cycle of breaking bricks, rebuilding devices, fighting enemies and switching heroes to solve light environmental puzzles. Its large DC cast and many collectibles give players reasons to revisit stages after finishing the directed story. Jokes, voice acting and detailed brick-built settings keep the cosmic crisis cheerful. The campaign is linear compared with the previous game's continuous Gotham, while building often takes little more than repeated button presses and ability prompts can nearly reveal each answer. The Wii U version has a more distinctive benefit: two local players can use the TV and GamePad as separate views, or choose a dynamic split screen. Independent screens make cooperation less cramped. Off-TV use is less successful visually. A platform review reports dark areas becoming muddy on the smaller display and a blue circle remaining in one corner. The separate-screen option therefore improves household play without making every display mode equally clear. This judgment is tied to Wii U controls and presentation rather than importing another console's technical results.

Strengths

  • TV and GamePad views give cooperative partners their own clear play spaces.
  • Many DC characters and collectibles reward returning to completed stages.
  • Voice work and brick-built scenery support an easygoing superhero comedy.

Weaknesses

  • Linear stages and obvious ability prompts keep much puzzle solving shallow.
  • Dark off-TV scenes and a persistent GamePad overlay reduce legibility.

Who it is for: Families and DC fans who want local cooperation with separate TV and GamePad views and enjoy collecting characters.

Play notes: Dark Wii U scenes are harder to read off-TV than on a television. Other consoles' performance has not been assumed here.

A huge roster and completion goals reward revisits, even if the directed campaign leaves less room to roam.

Hero abilities and brick rebuilding make accessible co-op, while one-button construction and strong prompts limit puzzle depth.

Jokes, voices and brick-built DC scenery shine on TV, while dark areas read less clearly on the GamePad.

Separate TV and GamePad co-op is genuinely useful, but muddy dark scenes and a persistent overlay impair off-TV clarity.
