About this game

Kingdoms of Amalur - Reckoning is a PlayStation 3 role-playing game centered on combat encounters, area and route exploration, and character or equipment growth. Story beats, exploration, and progression resources support a longer campaign, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Characters, world building, environments, and music carry most of the atmosphere, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that dense text, menu layers, repeated battles, loading, or language dependence can slow progress. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Engaging action and builds face PS3 faults and fading loot rewards.

The 2012 PlayStation 3 release of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning combines accessible action combat, build choices, and forgiving stealth in a large fantasy adventure. Forests give way to canyons and swamps, with faction and side quests offering many places to go. In the later hours, however, the huge supply of loot yields relatively few meaningful upgrades and often repeats armor models, weakening the reward for continued exploration. Game Informer’s direct PS3 review documented frame hitches, slowly loading textures, unsynchronized sound, and even enemies briefly invisible while their models loaded. The mandatory PS3 installation reduced these issues somewhat without eliminating them. Bright art and satisfying combat keep the central experience worthwhile, but these faults can disrupt combat information and the rhythm of a long journey. This judgment covers the original PS3 release and does not project later Re-Reckoning changes backward onto it.

Strengths

  • Combat, stealth, and skills support varied approaches.

Weaknesses

  • Later loot repetition and PS3 visual and frame-rate faults.

Who it is for: PS3 players seeking approachable combat and many side quests.

Play notes: Covers the 2012 PS3 version, not the later remaster.
