About this game

Hunter x Hunter - Wonder Adventure is a PSP action game centered on movement and immediate actions, enemy and hazard responses, and stage objectives. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while the portable widescreen, UMD streaming, compressed audio, and handheld-scale interface need to preserve targets, text, and action readability. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include single-nub camera control, UMD loading and noise, Memory Stick saves, battery life, regional language, ad hoc requirements, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Pair abilities give puzzles identity, though combat becomes repetitive.

Wonder Adventure builds its action adventure around pairs chosen from the Hunter × Hunter cast. Different abilities open field puzzles, while a reserve partner can assist in fights. That division of roles is a more fitting use of the license than a simple character reskin, and revisiting the early story is appealing to fans. The experience loses momentum in long, somewhat repetitive missions. Its event presentation is also sparse and not fully voiced. Four Famitsu reviewers of the PSP release independently flag a particularly practical issue: the camera cannot be tilted vertically, so height differences and jump distances are difficult to judge. This is a version-specific usability weakness, not a generic assumption about the handheld. Players mainly interested in the cast and puzzle routes may still enjoy it; those seeking fluent 3D action or rich story staging are likely to notice the limits quickly.

Strengths

  • Character-specific puzzle solving
  • Recognisable early story

Weaknesses

  • Long repetitive missions
  • Camera impedes vertical navigation

Who it is for: Hunter × Hunter fans interested in character-led field puzzles.

Play notes: PSP camera issue is documented by multiple contemporary reviewers.
