About this game

GRIS follows a young woman travelling through her own world after a painful experience. You guide her through platforming passages and light puzzles, using the changing capabilities of her dress to reach paths that become accessible as the journey unfolds. One of those transformations gives the dress a stone-like form, making the garment part of how you explore. The adventure has no protagonist death, while optional skill-based challenges provide additional tasks alongside the main exploration. Illustrated environments, character animation and an original musical score accompany the journey. Its progression connects the acquisition of new abilities with the discovery of further routes through Gris's world.

8.3 / 10Nintendo Switch

A promising fit for players who want exploration and visual storytelling without death penalties.

Linking new dress abilities to newly accessible paths could make progress feel like gradually learning how to inhabit Gris's world. The absence of protagonist death shifts the likely appeal toward discovery, with optional challenges available for players who also want skill tests.

Strengths

  • Abilities change which paths are accessible, giving exploration a concrete connection to character progression.
  • Artwork, animation and original music offer several complementary ways to follow the journey.

Weaknesses

  • The absence of death may provide less of the risk that some platforming players seek.

Who it is for: Players interested in a sorrow-themed journey, light puzzle solving and optional movement challenges.
