About this game
God of War Ragnarök is a PlayStation 5 adventure game centered on combat encounters, area and route exploration, and objective or clue progression. Locations, objectives, and clues gradually open the main chapters, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Theme, character expression, and environmental clues need to support exploration together, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that guidance, objective triggers, camera behavior, or dense text can create search and comprehension costs. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Expanded combat and a wider cast sustain a grand sequel.
God of War Ragnarök keeps the close, forceful combat of its predecessor while adding more attacks, enemy types and distinctive bosses. Those additions create new decisions about weapons, defence and positioning rather than merely increasing the length of each fight. Journeys across the nine realms offer side areas and secrets, and the wider cast gives Kratos and Atreus more relationships to test. Single-shot direction, acting and music lend weight to both mythic confrontations and quiet conversations. Some environmental puzzles slow the pace, and equipment levels make certain optional fights feel more like gates than tests of technique. The PS5 review documents a stable performance option, a crisp quality option and useful controller haptics on its tested build. This judgment concerns the 2022 base campaign; the later Valhalla mode and PC port require their own evidence.
Strengths
- New enemies and bosses sustain combat learning.
- Performances and music connect spectacle with character drama.
Weaknesses
- Some puzzles and level gates interrupt the journey.
Who it is for: Players who enjoy weighty action, long character arcs and optional exploration.
Play notes: Based on the 2022 PS5 base campaign; Valhalla and the PC release are outside this assessment.
