About this game
Ghostbusters - The Video Game is a PSP shooter game centered on combat encounters, area and route exploration, and story, case, or mission progress. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while the portable widescreen, UMD streaming, compressed audio, and handheld-scale interface need to preserve targets, text, and action readability. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include single-nub camera control, UMD loading and noise, Memory Stick saves, battery life, regional language, ad hoc requirements, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Familiar ghosts and capture rules survive, but the handheld camera is a major burden.
The PSP game casts you as a rookie alongside the familiar Ghostbusters, revisiting film locations and recognizable targets such as Slimer and Stay Puft. Capture has an engaging sequence: weaken a ghost with the proton beam, manage overheating, then guide it into a trap. Teammates can revive you and need rescuing themselves, adding reciprocal support to the action. Learning weapons provides participation beyond merely revisiting the films. Unfortunately, camera handling repeatedly gets in the way. Movement uses the analog stick, while face buttons rotate the view, a combination that remains awkward after practice. Good English voice performances preserve familiarity, but the stylized handheld visuals have less charm. This is a portable side adventure for devoted fans, not a smaller substitute for the HD game.
Strengths
- Overheating, trapping and teammate revives add interaction to capture.
- Familiar locations, ghosts and good voices preserve film appeal.
Weaknesses
- Face-button camera rotation pairs awkwardly with analog movement.
- The stylized handheld visuals have limited charm.
Who it is for: Original-film fans willing to accommodate awkward handheld camera controls.
Play notes: This is the stylized 2009 PSP version, not the HD game or remaster. Voice impressions refer to the English version represented by the sources.
