About this game

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is a PlayStation 5 role-playing game centered on combat encounters, area and route exploration, and character progression. Story beats, exploration, and progression resources support a longer campaign, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Characters, world building, environments, and music carry most of the atmosphere, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that dense text, menu layers, repeated battles, loading, or language dependence can slow progress. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Collected in series

Dungeons & Dragons spans licensed fantasy games about adventurers, monsters and magical worlds. Some ask you to build a party, plan spells and choose your words carefully; others put weapons directly in your hands for real-time battles. The rules and pace vary widely between games.

Enjoyable solo brawling now narrowed by lost co-op.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance remains playable on PS5 as an offline solo hack-and-slash game for existing owners. Its four heroes have distinct attacks and skills, while dodges, parries and new abilities make fights against Icewind Dale creatures enjoyable. Short-to-medium stages offer convenient sessions and some hidden loot. A direct PS5 review also finds stiff attack commitment, awkward turning toward enemies behind the player and incremental gear rewards that are tedious to sell one by one. Fantasy arenas and monsters are appealing without making the game a visual showcase for the hardware. The decisive current limitation is availability: a publisher notice says online servers closed in February 2025 and sales ended, while the base game and DLC remain accessible offline to existing owners. This score assesses the surviving single-player experience. It does not treat the former cooperative mode as something players can still rely on or recommend buying a delisted product for group play.

Strengths

  • Distinct heroes and responsive defensive options.

Weaknesses

  • Weak loot payoff, tedious handling and retired co-op.

Who it is for: Existing owners interested in solo fantasy combat.

Play notes: Delisted and online servers closed in 2025; existing owners retain solo play.
