About this game
Dante's Inferno - Shinkyoku Jigoku-Hen is a PSP adventure game centered on location exploration, character and object interaction, and objective or clue progression. Locations, objectives, and clues gradually open the main chapters, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Theme, character expression, and environmental clues need to support exploration together, while the portable widescreen, UMD streaming, compressed audio, and handheld-scale interface need to preserve targets, text, and action readability. The genre-specific limitation is that guidance, objective triggers, camera behavior, or dense text can create search and comprehension costs. Platform conditions also include single-nub camera control, UMD loading and noise, Memory Stick saves, battery life, regional language, ad hoc requirements, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Atmospheric handheld combat with uneven pacing and traversal.
Dante's Inferno retains worthwhile fighting choices on PSP. Scythe attacks, ranged cross strikes and magic support different approaches, while absolving or punishing souls advances two skill trees that connect growth with the theme. Reduced textures and layering do not erase the grotesque demons or the oppressive combination of choir and tortured cries. The weaker passages sit between the fights: some bosses become durable targets, crank puzzles interrupt action, and simple platforming and repeated growth farming stretch the pace. Ordinary combat and menus are manageable, but the camera occasionally works against the player and jumps lack crispness. It suits players drawn to monstrous imagery and combat variety more than those expecting the console edition's visual detail. Its strongest moments make the descent memorable, even when the connecting activities become routine.
Strengths
- Scythe, cross and magic encourage different fighting styles.
- Two skill trees connect theme and progression.
- Demon designs and choral sound create atmosphere.
Weaknesses
- Bosses and traversal vary in quality.
- Repetitive growth farming weakens pacing.
- Camera placement and sluggish jumps hinder movement.
Who it is for: Handheld action players who enjoy grotesque settings, combos and skill growth.
Play notes: PSP adaptation only; console rendering and Vita remapping are not credited. English-language audio evidence does not verify Japanese localization. Contains gore and nudity.
