About this game
Colin McRae - DiRT 2 is a PSP racing game centered on driving and route control, vehicle control, and route judgment. Tracks raise pressure through corners, rivals, and time targets, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Speed, track boundaries, and vehicle feedback determine driving readability, while the portable widescreen, UMD streaming, compressed audio, and handheld-scale interface need to preserve targets, text, and action readability. The genre-specific limitation is that visibility, collisions, steering precision, wheel support, or loading can limit consistency. Platform conditions also include single-nub camera control, UMD loading and noise, Memory Stick saves, battery life, regional language, ad hoc requirements, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Varied PSP races with slippery handling and few recovery tools.
The PSP DiRT 2 is a Sumo Digital handheld game, not a reduced copy of the HD-console and PC release. World Tour, Arcade races and several Challenge types fit short sessions, while three assist settings let players move from gentler steering toward demanding slides. Learning those cars can be satisfying, but slippery handling, inconsistent off-course resets and fixed vehicles in some events make difficult challenges feel less controllable. Tuning is minimal. Cars and regional scenery are clear enough for racing, although light damage, thin engine sound and little X Games identity leave the presentation less distinctive. A direct account of a completed PSP run confirms the absence of the HD game’s Flashback tool and the DS game’s track editor, alongside period Wi-Fi and game-sharing options. Those historical network features are not a promise of present access. This score concerns the 2009 PSP edition alone. Patient portable-racing fans can find a useful series of stages, but newcomers expecting the approachable HD version should anticipate a rougher ride.
Strengths
- Several short modes and adjustable driving assists.
Weaknesses
- Slippery cars, fixed challenges and thin presentation.
Who it is for: Portable-racing fans willing to master difficult handling.
Play notes: PSP differs from HD versions; current Wi-Fi access is unverified.
