About this game

Chili Con Carnage is a PSP shooter game centered on aiming, shooting, and weapon use, story, case, or mission progress, and aiming and shooting. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while the portable widescreen, UMD streaming, compressed audio, and handheld-scale interface need to preserve targets, text, and action readability. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include single-nub camera control, UMD loading and noise, Memory Stick saves, battery life, regional language, ad hoc requirements, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

6.6 / 10PlayStation Portable

Portable stunt shooting held back by unreliable targeting.

Chili Con Carnage retains the exaggerated action-film personality of Total Overdose but reshapes it into short PSP missions rather than an open world. Nineteen missions, timed variants and combo objectives give portable play a clear structure. Loud dialogue, energetic music and crisp animation suit the stunt-heavy premise. Its crucial weakness is the one-stick handheld aiming solution: a direct PSP review finds that automatic targeting can select the wrong foe or lose a target while the player moves, making stylish chains harder than they should be. Sparse enemy groups in wide spaces compound the interruption. Performance slowdowns were uncommon in that test, so the main technical judgment concerns input adaptation rather than a generic claim that the handheld is underpowered. Brownish enemies can also merge with their backgrounds. This is a score for the 2007 PSP game, not a converted Total Overdose rating or a promise of current multiplayer access.

Strengths

  • Brief missions, comic dialogue and energetic music.

Weaknesses

  • Unreliable targeting, sparse encounters and low contrast.

Who it is for: Portable shooter fans tolerant of inconsistent auto-aim.

Play notes: Distinct PSP game, not a direct Total Overdose port.
