About this game
Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars - The Director's Cut is a Wii puzzle game centered on puzzle, maze, or device solving, rule recognition, and spatial or logical judgment. Compact stages add conditions and tighter constraints over time, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Graphics, audio, touch, or pointer feedback need to support decisions directly, while standard-definition output, motion feedback, and interface scale at television distance need to preserve control readability. The genre-specific limitation is that limited explanations, input recognition, repetition, or abrupt difficulty can stall progress. Platform conditions also include the Sensor Bar, remote batteries, motion calibration, peripheral requirements, storage limits, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.
Collected in series
Broken Sword follows George Stobbart and journalist Nico Collard through mysteries where ordinary clues lead into dangerous conspiracies. Conversations, curious objects and carefully observed details drive the investigations, with dry humor giving the pair room to breathe between discoveries.

A strong mystery with an uneven Wii-specific refurbishment.
The Wii Director’s Cut of Broken Sword opens with a new investigation for Nico before joining George’s familiar Templar mystery. Its additional puzzles generally fit the story, while memorable dialogue and music keep the larger adventure engaging. A gradual hint system and diary make it easier to resume an investigation after a break. The Wii Remote pointer also works naturally for inspecting scenes and dragging items. This is an expansion rather than a complete rebuild: Nico’s section ends after only a couple of hours, twisting the remote to open a safe is fiddly, and older George scenes retain jagged imagery and inconsistent speech quality beside the new portraits. Players who enjoy deliberate inventory mysteries receive a compelling version with helpful guidance. Those expecting every scene to be visually and technically remade should temper that expectation. The evidence concerns the Wii Director’s Cut, not the DS controls or later Reforged release.
Strengths
- Logical puzzles, smooth pointing and useful guidance work together.
Weaknesses
- Short new chapter, fiddly safe control and uneven old art.
Who it is for: Players who enjoy deliberate investigation and inventory puzzles.
Play notes: This is the 2009 Wii Director’s Cut, not DS or Reforged.
