About this game

Blood - The Last Vampire - Gekan is a PlayStation 2 adventure game centered on story, case, or mission progress, location exploration, and character and object interaction. Locations, objectives, and clues gradually open the main chapters, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Theme, character expression, and environmental clues need to support exploration together, while 3D scenes, streamed data, cinematics, surround audio, and interlaced television output need to preserve action and state readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that guidance, objective triggers, camera behavior, or dense text can create search and comprehension costs. Platform conditions also include DVD loading, the 8MB Memory Card, analog sticks and pressure-sensitive buttons, Multitap, Network Adapter, dedicated peripherals, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Striking animated horror with needlessly hidden route triggers.

The PS2 lower volume of BLOOD THE LAST VAMPIRE concludes the suspense built by its upper half. Saya, Ruria and a young man caught in the conflict carry a dark story presented largely through Production I.G animation. Players watch substantial scenes, choose actions and use the Blood Search System at selected moments to redirect the plot. That interactive framing gives this more identity than a passive film, and multiple endings make the characters worth revisiting. The animated presentation is the clearest strength: it gives the horror and character tension weight beyond the modest amount of direct play. Yet Gekan is difficult to approach alone. Its relationships and mysteries assume knowledge of Joukan, and some Blood Search opportunities are so poorly signposted that player accounts recommend a guide for completion. Previously viewed scenes can be skipped, which softens the repetition without solving the discovery problem. This review concerns the original PS2 lower volume, not the later PSP package combining both halves. No unsupported frame-rate or loading claims are made. It is best for readers willing to finish the first volume and then work patiently through branching animated drama.

Strengths

  • Extensive Production I.G animation gives the horror real atmosphere.
  • Alternative endings make the character story worth revisiting.

Weaknesses

  • The second volume is hard to understand without Joukan.
  • Hidden Blood Search timing obstructs independent route discovery.

Who it is for: Players who know the upper volume and enjoy Japanese animated suspense with branching scenes.

Play notes: This assessment is for the PS2 lower volume, not the combined PSP release; a route guide may help with endings.

Multiple endings reward exploration, yet this second volume relies strongly on its predecessor.

Blood Search decisions add agency to animated drama, but their timing can be too obscure.

Production I.G animation and the dark Saya story are the strongest reasons to stay with this volume.

Scene skipping helps repeated routes, while hidden Blood Search triggers make endings difficult to discover unaided.
