About this game
Black-Matrix + is a PlayStation role-playing game centered on story, case, or mission progress, area exploration, and combat and party setup. Story beats, exploration, and progression resources support a longer campaign, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Characters, world building, environments, and music carry most of the atmosphere, while early 3D graphics, pre-rendered backgrounds, CD audio, and full-motion video need to preserve targets and interface readability on a television. The genre-specific limitation is that dense text, menu layers, repeated battles, loading, or language dependence can slow progress. Platform conditions also include disc loading, Memory Card saves, regional video standards, digital or analog control support, vibration, and dedicated peripherals affect original-hardware use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

An appealing dark strategy world held back by narrative cuts and slow routines.
Black/Matrix+ gives its tactical conflicts unusual weight through a world that reverses familiar ideas of virtue and sin. Defeated enemies yield BP for skills and equipment growth, with abilities such as exchanging weapons adding room to experiment. Redrawn characters, dark jazz and hip-hop music retain a distinctive identity, and vocal performances help convey emotion despite static facial expressions. This is not a complete collection of the other editions' strengths, however. Cuts to opening events and epilogues leave gaps in character backgrounds and narrative closure. Early stat building also depends on repeated mini-games, including demanding stick movement and rapid presses. Long successive battles, unskippable enemy deliberation and spell sequences require patience. It suits Japanese-reading strategy fans drawn to dark characters more than brisk progression.
Strengths
- BP growth and skill combinations support tactical experimentation.
- Reversed moral values, character artwork and dark music create a strong identity.
Weaknesses
- Missing events and epilogues weaken narrative completeness; repeated mini-games and unskippable sequences slow progress.
Who it is for: Japanese-reading strategy fans who enjoy dark characters and patient skill building.
Play notes: This is original PS Cross, not DC Advanced; ended archive sales do not disable offline discs, and the story includes slavery and dark moral themes.
