About this game

Baku Bomberman 2 is a Nintendo 64 action game centered on movement and immediate actions, enemy and hazard responses, and stage objectives. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while 3D scenes, fog, textures, and cartridge audio need to preserve target readability within limited memory and television output. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include camera control, stick precision, Controller Pak saves, Rumble Pak support, Expansion Pak requirements, and four-player setup can affect original-hardware use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

Elemental puzzles and local battles offset weak N64 polish.

Baku Bomberman 2, known outside Japan as Bomberman 64: The Second Attack, moves the N64 series back toward screen-by-screen action puzzles. Ice can freeze a route, wind can carry Bomberman to a ledge, and other elemental bombs open blocked paths. Permanent armor pieces add a reason to explore, while the growing companion Pommy provides a lighter side system. Seven worlds and several local battle formats make the package broader than its uneven campaign alone. Many puzzles remain simple, bosses repeat ideas, and a second player controlling Pommy has few consequential actions. The direct Nintendo 64 account also notes dull colors, blurry textures and slight slowdown despite basic imagery; generic music and repeated villain effects contribute little atmosphere. This is best for players who enjoy local Bomberman battles and can accept an average solo adventure. It is the 1999 Japanese-title release, not the separate 2001 game also called Bomberman 64.

Strengths

  • Elemental bombs and battle formats extend the formula.

Weaknesses

  • Repetitive puzzles, weak presentation and slight slowdown.

Who it is for: Bomberman fans valuing local battles over solo depth.

Play notes: Japanese title maps to Second Attack, not the 2001 namesake.
