About this game

Atelier Rorona Plus follows an apprentice alchemist trying to save her workshop from closure. Twelve main assignments across three years ask Rorona to demonstrate its value through tasks such as synthesising requested items and dealing with monsters. Gathering, travel and crafting all consume time, so materials and party activities must fit around deadlines. Synthesis carries traits from ingredients into finished items, while battles use turn order and teammate assistance. Optional requests, rewards and character events connect the workshop’s work with everyday relationships.

Collected in series

Atelier is an RPG series where gathering ingredients and making useful items are central to the adventure. A better recipe can prepare you for the next outing, while friendships and each alchemist’s goals give you reasons to return to the workshop.

Atelier Rorona Plus: The Alchemist of Arland

Purposeful synthesis and scheduling give workshop life substance, with repetitive errands and simple battles.

Atelier Rorona Plus makes what to craft and when to craft it part of the same decision. Ingredient traits, costs and quality affect the result, while travel and production consume days that must fit around deadlines. Optional rewards and character events keep goals coming, although gathering, making items and handing them in remain a repeated routine. The identified test finds basic assignments forgiving; completing everything requires more deliberate planning. Battles use visible turn order and assists to reward prepared items, but offer relatively simple tactics. Models closer to the illustrations, light daily scenes and memorable music give the workshop warmth. On PS3, manageable navigation, feature introductions and reference guides make the systems more approachable. It rewards interest in crafting and character routines more than a desire for grand spectacle or constant combat pressure.

Strengths

  • Synthesis connects with scheduling
  • Helpful navigation and reference material

Weaknesses

  • Repeated gathering and errands
  • Relatively simple battles

Who it is for: RPG players who enjoy crafting plans, deadlines and light everyday character stories.

Play notes: Independent judgment from Zack Reese’s July 1, 2014 RPG Site review, explicitly tested on PS3, not our own playtest. Hours, console model and patch are unspecified. The current Plus/DX hub title does not turn it into a DX test; Vita and PC runtime are excluded. Technical usability rests on observed interface, navigation and teaching, without a measured frame-rate claim.

Ingredient traits, inheritance costs and quality give synthesis purpose, while travel and crafting time turn priorities into scheduling decisions. Simple battles still connect that preparation with turn order and assists.

The PS3 test finds navigation and synthesis easier to manage, with introductions and reference guides explaining the systems. That support makes deadlines and crafting more approachable with practical support for material decisions.
