About this game

Antz Racing is a Game Boy Color racing release centered on driving and route control, vehicle control, and route judgment. Tracks raise pressure through corners, rivals, and time targets, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on campaign length or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Speed, track boundaries, and vehicle feedback determine driving readability, while color choices need to distinguish characters, objects, and routes rather than serve as decoration alone. The main genre-specific friction is that draw distance, collision feedback, and steering precision can limit consistency. In addition, battery saves, link cables, cartridge-specific hardware, the unlit display, and regional language can affect the original experience. This description covers only this release and excludes emulator features, modern-port conveniences, and content from other platforms.

5.8 / 10Game Boy Color (GBC)

Responsive GBC steering cannot sustain weak racing.

Antz Racing is a separate Game Boy Color kart game, distinct from the earlier platformer and the later Extreme Racing. Its Grand Prix is divided into five season names, with small-scale tracks, occasional shortcuts and fixed pickups such as boosters, missiles and repairs. A firsthand GBC player describes responsive steering and surprisingly clear track objects. The central competition is weaker: three computer rivals often disappear behind the player early in a race, leaving little tactical pressure. The jump is poorly integrated, sometimes failing to help and instead costing speed or sending the kart toward a wall. Season themes provide some surface variation, but the review finds very little reason to return after the cup. Similar-looking racers and a repeatedly used tune further reduce its identity. This can serve someone wanting a few easy handheld races among oversized objects. It is a poor fit for a player seeking durable kart competition. The score is an independent four-part judgment, not a conversion of the source review’s numeric rating.

Strengths

  • Seasonal tracks and pickups make the handheld races approachable.

Weaknesses

  • Weak rivals, awkward jumping and thin replay reduce lasting interest.

Who it is for: Handheld players seeking a few easy insect-scale races rather than serious competition.

Play notes: The 2001 GBC Antz Racing only; other Antz games are separate titles.
