About this game

All Star Pro-Wrestling is a PlayStation 2 sports game centered on sport controls, shifts between attack and defense, and score or tournament goals. Matches, challenges, and tournament goals give sessions clear boundaries, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Players, venues, animation, and score feedback establish the match atmosphere, while 3D scenes, streamed data, cinematics, surround audio, and interlaced television output need to preserve action and state readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that opponent ai, control precision, multiplayer accessories, and period-specific rosters can affect consistency. Platform conditions also include DVD loading, the 8MB Memory Card, analog sticks and pressure-sensitive buttons, Multitap, Network Adapter, dedicated peripherals, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Impressive real-wrestler staging held back by slow exchanges and unreliable hits.

All Star Pro Wrestling brings twenty-six real wrestlers from different organizations into one ring. Detailed expressions, individual themes, lighting and pyrotechnics give entrances presence. Arenas, referees, difficulty and match length are selectable, with singles and tournaments supporting arranged contests, but no wrestler creation or editing expands long-term variety. Actual exchanges are slower than the staging suggests: grounded wrestlers can remain trapped under kicks, interrupted recoveries stretch matches toward draws, and kicks or aerial attacks occasionally fail to register. Dual sticks separate movement and moves, while an alternative directional-pad and pressure-button setup exists. A substantial move repertoire rewards study, with two input arrangements, though learning demands attention. Skippable entrances and illustrated menus help. Repeated grunts and synchronized crowds diminish atmosphere. It suits Japanese-wrestling enthusiasts prepared to study actions, not expectations of brisk bouts.

Strengths

  • Detailed real wrestlers, individual themes and entrance lighting have expressive presence.
  • Tournament, referee, venue and difficulty settings support arranged contests.

Weaknesses

  • Repeated grounded kicks, interrupted recovery and lengthy draws slow exchanges, with unreliable hits; synchronized crowds and repeated grunts weaken atmosphere.

Who it is for: Japanese-wrestling fans willing to study techniques and arrange bouts.

Play notes: Original first PS2 installment; dual-stick and pressure-button setups exist, but wrestler creation is absent and slow bouts sometimes contain missed hit detection.
