About this game
Aces of the Luftwaffe - Squadron is a PlayStation 4 shooter game centered on aiming, shooting, and weapon use, combat encounters, and story, case, or mission progress. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while HD output, HDR or PS4 Pro modes, HDD streaming, surround audio, and television-distance interfaces need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include HDD installs and loading, patch version, storage space, DualShock 4 battery life, PS Camera or PS VR requirements, visual modes, frame rate, and network services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Squadron play and local co-op add character, but dodging lacks precision.
Aces of the Luftwaffe: Squadron turns the earlier game into a vertically scrolling formation shooter. The player flies the lead aircraft while three allies follow and add firepower; local players can instead take a plane each. Individual pilot conditions sometimes remove an ally or complicate formation, giving the squad more personality than a plain damage boost. Medals and hidden skill coins feed upgrades over short levels. On normal difficulty, most stages advance without grinding and pose modest resistance, before a sharper final-boss challenge. The PS4 review finds that the entire plane can be hit and allied craft enlarge the vulnerable formation. Dodging therefore favours firepower and adaptation over threading tiny gaps. Cheerful graphics, dialogue and the alternate postwar story distinguish this sequel, though defeated enemies lack visual punch. It is an approachable cooperative shooter with clear limits for players seeking exacting hitbox control or a consistently hard campaign.
Strengths
- Formation allies make local co-op distinctive.
- Progression rarely demands repeated farming.
Weaknesses
- Broad hit areas weaken precise dodging.
- Normal stages are easier than the final boss.
Who it is for: Players looking for approachable local cooperative shooting.
Play notes: Original 2018 PS4 review; later Extended Edition content is outside scope.
