About this game
A Plague Tale: Requiem is a PlayStation 5 adventure game centered on combat encounters, area and route exploration, and objective or clue progression. Locations, objectives, and clues gradually open the main chapters, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Theme, character expression, and environmental clues need to support exploration together, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that guidance, objective triggers, camera behavior, or dense text can create search and comprehension costs. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
A Plague Tale blends story-led adventure with a threatening medieval world. Amicia and Hugo’s games use stealth, light and environmental puzzles to survive soldiers and rats; the Sophia-led prequel Resonance brings a stronger focus on close combat and exploration.

More room to improvise within an emotionally demanding journey.
A Plague Tale: Requiem preserves the siblings vulnerability while giving encounters more room to breathe. Detection can lead to a changing plan rather than an immediate restart, with the crossbow and environmental tools supporting different responses. Combat, light-based puzzles and exploration create variety, while landscapes and rat swarms serve the characters emotional journey instead of standing alone as spectacle. Some forced-failure sections still interrupt that momentum, and the heavy narrative asks for sustained attention. PS5 later received a performance mode targeting 60fps with reduced visual settings. That update matters: launch frame-rate criticism is not the only available picture, but a supported target is not a guarantee in every scene. The result is an excellent directed adventure with meaningful, clearly bounded limitations.
Strengths
- Encounters permit recovery and tactical changes.
- Character, music and environment reinforce emotional stakes.
Weaknesses
- Some forced failures interrupt progression.
- Performance mode trades visual quality for responsiveness.
Who it is for: Players seeking tense, story-led single-player adventures.
Play notes: Familiarity with Innocence helps. Contains disturbing themes; technical scope combines dated review evidence and the 2023 official patch.
