About this game

88 Heroes is a PlayStation 4 action game centered on platform movement and landing judgment, enemy and hazard responses, and stage objectives. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while HD output, HDR or PS4 Pro modes, HDD streaming, surround audio, and television-distance interfaces need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include HDD installs and loading, patch version, storage space, DualShock 4 battery life, PS Camera or PS VR requirements, visual modes, frame rate, and network services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Comic character roulette that gradually wears thin.

88 Heroes turns a stock of lives into a collection of wildly different characters. Each arrival asks the player to relearn movement, jumping and special abilities, so the same platform route can suddenly become easier or much more awkward. Character descriptions, detailed sprites and the villain watching events give the opening a strong comic energy. Short stages are easy to sample, but similar heroes and limited environmental themes become more apparent as the campaign continues. Unexpected hazards also make the joke less welcome. Saving progress and retrying with the final hero soften completion demands, though the timer discourages carefully scouting with the camera. Players who can laugh at uneven odds will respond better than those seeking a consistently measured precision challenge.

Strengths

  • Character differences reward immediate adaptation.
  • Detailed sprites support the humour.

Weaknesses

  • Themes and similar heroes repeat.
  • Some deaths are difficult to anticipate.

Who it is for: Action players comfortable with chaotic humour and unequal characters.

Play notes: Timed stages; PS4 progress saving and retries are available.

Short stages start briskly, but repeated themes and similar characters stretch the joke. Sudden deaths gradually replace surprise with frustration.

Different bodies and abilities make immediate adaptation entertaining. Extremely weak heroes can undermine the fairness of the same obstacle.

Comic sprites and the watching villain give the game character. Foreground jokes sometimes compete with reading the action.

Progress saves and last-character retries help completion. Camera scouting exists, but the timer makes careful inspection of hidden hazards impractical.
