Overview

Eiketsuden is Koei’s historical tactical RPG series, following individual heroes through battles woven into their stories. You move units, work toward each battlefield’s objectives and watch familiar events take dramatic turns. Representative games: Sangokushi Eiketsuden (1995): Follows Liu Bei through story-linked battles with specific victory conditions. Sangokushi Kōmeiden (1996): Follows Zhuge Liang through a campaign whose choices and battles can change the story. Sangokushi Sōsōden (1998): Weapons and armor gain levels through use in Cao Cao’s campaigns. Suitable for: If you like thinking through unit placement while following a character’s story, these battles give both interests room. The pleasure is in arranging your forces, meeting the objective and seeing where the next chapter leads.
