GameCube launched first in Japan on September 14, 2001. Nintendo’s compact successor to Nintendo 64 uses small proprietary game discs and a television-based setup. Its cubical housing and rear carrying handle make it easily recognizable.
Four controller ports and two memory-card slots sit at the front. The controller uses a prominent A button, differently shaped supporting buttons, two sticks and shoulder controls. Supported games can link to a Game Boy Advance. With a Game Boy Player attachment and the required startup disc, compatible Game Boy family cartridges can also be played on television.
Game progress generally needs a separate memory card rather than being written to the disc. Match software region, console and video accessories, and check the hardware revision because connections can differ. Game Boy Player compatibility requires additional equipment. Standard audio CDs and DVD movies are not the console’s intended playback formats.
