Overview
Altered Beast is Sega’s action series built around turning a human fighter into something monstrous. Beast forms change how you attack and move, taking the idea from side-scrolling brawls into a later 3D adventure. Representative games: Altered Beast (1988): Collect Spirit Balls to transform into the beast assigned to each stage. Altered Beast: Guardian of the Realms (2002): Expands the transformation roster with creatures such as a scorpion. Altered Beast — PlayStation 2 reboot (2005): Choose beast forms to suit the situation, using their distinct abilities to overcome obstacles. Suitable for: For players who enjoy close-range action and discovering what a new creature form can do. The original’s arcade rhythm and the later game’s more graphic transformations offer different takes on the same appeal.
