Overview

What this platform is

Xbox 360 succeeded the original Xbox. Its first launch was in North America on November 22, 2005, followed by Europe and Japan. It is a distinct console generation; “360” is a product name rather than a display resolution. Its library spans action, racing, role-playing and local multiplayer games.

Main features

High-definition presentation and wireless controllers helped define the system. Achievements and Gamerscore recorded challenges across different games. Alongside disc releases, digital distribution became an important part of its library. Original consoles and later S and E models have different cases, connectors and storage configurations, despite belonging to the same platform.

What to know when using it

Identify the model before selecting power supplies, display cables, storage or controllers. Local multiplayer and online multiplayer are different features, and online availability depends on the individual game. To play a 360 title on Xbox One or Series hardware, check its compatibility entry and the requirements of its disc or digital edition.
