About this game
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is a PC action game centered on platform movement and landing judgment, enemy and hazard responses, and stage objectives. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while resolution, graphics settings, frame rate, aspect ratio, audio, text scaling, and hardware performance need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include OS and hardware requirements, installation media, patches, drivers, DRM and launchers, key binding and controller support, save locations, mod compatibility, servers, and era-specific OS compatibility affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Vampire: The Masquerade games explore a gothic world where vampire clans compete for power while hiding their existence. Different adaptations bring that tension into action RPGs, investigations and narrative adventures, with supernatural abilities and uneasy loyalties shaping the experience.

A fascinating vampire RPG with rough original combat and bugs.
The original 2004 PC Bloodlines is more compelling for its nocturnal Los Angeles than for combat. A direct contemporary review describes vampire clans and disciplines that can support conversation, stealth or violence. Faction characters, urban rumors, club music and shadowy streets give its supernatural world a strong identity. Once encounters become firefights or melee, the action feels clumsy, and later missions lean more heavily on fighting than the early game’s flexible problem solving. More seriously, the original Source-engine release had noticeable bugs and poor technical finishing. This assessment does not retroactively credit the widely used unofficial patches for repairing that launch experience. It remains attractive to RPG players willing to tolerate rough systems for memorable characters and setting, but it is not a frictionless action recommendation. The score is for the first Windows release, not a modern patched installation. Current compatibility or mod availability is outside the cited review.
Strengths
- Clan roles, factions and nocturnal atmosphere.
Weaknesses
- Clumsy combat, uneven late game and bugs.
Who it is for: RPG players willing to tolerate original-build faults.
Play notes: Original PC build; community patches excluded.
