About this game
The Rise of the Golden Idol places you in the role of an observer investigating crimes in the 1970s. Examine each scene at your own pace, collect clues and use the details to work out who the people are, what happened and why. Observations supply key terms for building your account of events. The investigation also extends beyond individual scenes. Puzzles at the end of each chapter ask you to revisit earlier deductions and identify links between cases. Freeze-frame depictions of murder form the visual basis of the investigations, against a setting of fax machines, television culture and parapsychology.
Collected in series
The Golden Idol is a deduction series about making sense of strange deaths and the conspiracies behind them. You inspect scenes, collect telling details and work out who did what, gradually connecting individual cases into a larger story.

AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
For patient investigators who want to explain the evidence themselves and connect separate events.
Collecting terms and testing an account of a scene may make observation feel like the main form of progress. Chapter-ending connections should particularly appeal to readers who enjoy reconsidering earlier conclusions.
Strengths
- Self-paced scene exploration may give detail-focused players room to develop a theory.
- Revisiting deductions may reward an interest in how individual crimes fit a larger account.
Weaknesses
- The need to connect earlier cases may feel demanding to players who prefer each mystery to stand alone.
Who it is for: Players who enjoy close reading, identifying people from clues and revising explanations as connections emerge.
Play notes: The investigations include depicted murder scenes.
