About this game

Rematch is a PlayStation 5 sports game centered on sport controls, shifts between attack and defense, and score or tournament goals. Matches, challenges, and tournament goals give sessions clear boundaries, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Players, venues, animation, and score feedback establish the match atmosphere, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that opponent ai, control precision, multiplayer accessories, and period-specific rosters can affect consistency. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Direct ball control and team positioning create a high ceiling, with practice needed to learn the full moveset.

Rematch turns football into a team action game where each pass and shot must be executed directly. You control only your own player, read the ball, find space and move quickly between attack and defense. Enclosed pitches reduce interruptions, making a successful combination particularly satisfying. Its rules are simpler than a full football simulation, but its inputs require practice, and individual skill cannot reliably compensate for teammates who ignore positioning or goalkeeping. Short matches and training exercises support gradual improvement, with lasting variety coming mainly from opponents and cooperation rather than extensive solo content. Later patches added cross-platform matchmaking, parties and crosshair adjustments, so the launch absence of crossplay is no longer a current limitation. PS5 players still need the relevant online access. It best suits groups willing to pass, communicate and learn together.

Strengths

  • A high ceiling for ball control and positioning
  • Satisfying cooperation in short matches

Weaknesses

  • Coordination with strangers is variable
  • Complex inputs need practice

Who it is for: Team players willing to communicate and practice

Play notes: Complete training before matchmaking and check connection and PS5 online access requirements.
