About this game

The creatures of Rataport dream of reaching the Everafter. Their journey mixes rhythm commands with side-scrolling movement: a Ratatan can move freely, while sequences played to the beat direct the Cobun army. Where the leader stands matters as much as when a command is entered. Expeditions use a roguelite structure with changing rewards, while preparations between attempts offer another way to develop the army. Choosing when to advance, attack or retreat turns the soundtrack into part of the decision-making. The expressive 2D characters give the musical journey its distinctive appearance.

Ratatan

An appealing musical command loop that can lose its shape beneath the spectacle.

The most interesting demand is dividing attention between a moving leader and an army that responds to rhythm. A successful command is useful because it arrives from the right position, not merely because a button was pressed on time. That gives the musical loop a strategy of its own. The repeated-run structure provides rewards to chase, although changes in equipment do not always transform what the player is asked to do. More seriously, an expressive image can become an unreadable one when effects and backgrounds compete with the troops. The result has a memorable identity and a satisfying central idea, but needs a tolerance for repetition and visual noise. Switch2 and PS5 technical judgments use different disclosed observations; the smooth solo performance reported on Switch2 is not assumed for PS5, and prelaunch online availability is not treated as a network-quality test.

Strengths

  • Rhythm and positioning form a distinctive command system.

Weaknesses

  • Visual overload and limited variation between repeated actions.

Who it is for: Rhythm-game fans who also enjoy positioning and repeated attempts.

Play notes: The October23 PS5 review establishes battle readability issues. Model, patch, measured FPS and online test conditions are undisclosed; the score does not imply those were tested.
